ABOUT KATERINA
PERSONAL JOURNEY
I entered into the helping profession after experiencing a "dark night of the soul" where I came face-to-face with my own issues of addiction and unhealed trauma. I was able to find therapeutic communities to start addressing these concerns and have been giving back and helping others on the path of recovery and healing since 1995. After becoming a parent, I started working on the deeper subconscious level through hypnotherapy and other somatic approaches, which has led me to offer services that allow access to our deeper, hidden parts of ourselves that are ultimately crying out for healing. I have been in healing, therapeutic communities for 30 years as I believe it is only through my own work, professionally, personally and spiritually, that I can effectively meet others and hold therapeutic space.
MIND/BODY CONNECTION
Most of my life I struggled with anxiety and depression, not realizing that much of it was caused by an undiagnosed genetic disorder that has caused mutiple physical and mental health disorders. My own journey with chronic illness and fatigue have brought me into a deeper understanding of how our body shapes our experience. Working with the subconscious and somatic states have been key in developing coping strategies to deal with a disabled body. I now specialize with folks facing: ME/CFS, EDS and other hyper mobility disorders, MAST cell activation, Epstein-Barr, POTS and other auto-immune disorders.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
I have an undergraduate degree in pscyhology and a masters degree in social work. I have been employed with multiple agencies in various positions: a mental health counselor; a research coordinator examining behavioral change; a director of programs for young adults experiencing trauma; a coordinator for needle exchanges; an instructor at local training institutes. I have over 500 hours of training and practice in psychedelic-assisted therapy and am employed as a research therapist for a project studying the effects of psilocybin on treatment resistant depression. I have offered individual and group services, such as workshops and retreats, since 2011, as well as supervision for other practioners.
APPROACH
My theoretic orientation is based on depth and transpersonal psychology, liberation and feminist theory, harm reduction philosophy, and attachment and relational therory. As we are all relational being, understanding how we relate and attach with ourselves and each other will give us the desired choice over our behaviors. As we work on healing the deeper forces within us we can effective change our outer orientation and approach to our lives.
