About me:
I entered the helping profession after recovering from my own "dark night of the soul" where I faced my own demons of addiction and early childhood trauma. I couldn't have survived without community and therapy so was motivated to find ways to be of service, especially with folks who were still struggling, wanting to share my journey of healing and recovery. When I became a parent, I was introduced to hypnotherapy as a client to address my own childhood trauma that was triggering depression and anxiety. As I delved deeper into my own healing and felt first-hand the curative capacity of working on a subconscious and somatic level, I was able to change some core beliefs and behaviors that allowed me to heal and realize my goals. I began to offer this modality to others and have been in on-going trainings and group retreats ever since to learn and continue my own healing. I firmly believe that through my own work, I am able to be more present and hold space for others, while sharing both my clinical and personal experience.
I am a licensed independent clinical social worker and certified advanced hypnotherapist practicing teletherapy in Seattle and the greater Puget Sound area. Throughout my work, I have strived to see person in context from a culturally responsive and anti-oppressive lens, I believe our mental/emotional health is intrinsically intertwined with the environment we live in. I use depth and relational psychotherapy, trauma-informed care, social justice, and liberation psychology as theoretical frameworks to inform my approach. I have worked in the field of addiction and trauma for over 20 years as mental health clinician in community mental health clinics, a public health worker with high risk individuals, a chemical dependency counselor, a manager of programs focusing on PTSD among young adults and as a coordinator of research teams examining the factors that help individuals change behavior. I have an undergraduate degree in psychology and a masters degree in social work from the University of Washington. I have training and experience in hypnotherapy, chemical dependency treatment, systems, humanistic and psychodynamic theory, mindfulness and somatic approaches, transpersonal psychology and trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I continue my search for greater meaning by delving into existential philosophy and pursuing my own spiritual practices. I especially love working with groups and leading retreats to heal dysfunctional family dynamics in a therapeutic community.
